Russell Ecob
My work involves statistical analysis and modelling, design of surveys and related feasibility studies. I advise on sampling methods. I have particular interest and expertise in social epidemiology (observational and case control) and in the analysis of longitudinal data. I give statistical advice both to students and to researchers.
For students, I would generally expect that they would carry out their own statistical analysis with advice from me (though this is always a joint effort and often facilitated by face to face meetings). I often advise by phone and e mail.
For researchers a number of consultancy modes are possible and I operate on both hourly and daily rates. The work can lead to published papers.
I work internationally with clients. I am familiar with a range of statistical software and use Stata as general purpose software of choice (and also SPSS) and MLwiN, Mplus for particular applications.

Statistical advice and support
For organisations (including industry, research bodies or local authorities) I will carry out and report the results of statistical analyses, including methods of testing for differences, of measuring association, and of prediction using regression.
For students I will give advice on the most appropriate methods of analysis, supply detailed feedback on their completed analyses and on their interpretation of the results, and suggest further analyses.
Advice on research design, measurement, and methodology is also offered. Great care will be taken to present all results, interpretations and advice in an easily understood way.
Editing documents
I will edit your documents, correcting grammatical and spelling errors, removing redundant words and phrases, eliminating jargon, and improving sentence construction. This will make the documents more readable and easier to understand, and give them a more professional look.
For organisations I will help to draft documents and suggest revisions to existing drafts. For students I will only suggest revisions to existing drafts.
